Nanaimo was another nice Canada city. I am off shortly after 10am, of course concerned about the wind. The forecast deteriorated since yesterday, and today i must cross from Vancouver Island over to the mainland. See the map...
Like any other day, starts benign, gets quickly worse. The wind comes from the stern quarter, which is awkward cuz as the waves pass they feel like you'll be flipped over. Requires constant tense attention. Mostly i didnt flip, tho' there was 1 time everything in the cabin switched sides.
So i was nervous about the Crossing, and indeed it got worse as i went, but i hoped it'd get better when i rounded the point of Texada Island, and indeed it did. Altho it was still rough, now i was going straight downwind, which the boat handles better, and i whereas before i was running ~10mph, now i could plane at 18. Moving! Video...
(another Crossing story...)
It was a grey day, the forested hills indistinct in clouds, but it went very well. I made a lot of miles; indeed i'm already like 1/5 of the way to Skagway?
By 3pm i was to Lund, a destination because it's the last town before the Desolation Sound ~wilderness, and cuz the Cousins told me i must check in with their relatives there. It's a tiny place, not at all like the cities where i've stopped previous.

So glad you are in Lund!! My nephew Duncan has been watching for you. Hope connections were easily made. Saw you checked out the pub but the bakery is incredible....as is the cute small store above it selling wonderful wool Pollen Sweaters. Desolation Sound is unbelievable. Mountains coming straight down to the water. Enjoy it all! Susan
Larry wants to meet you in the pub....stay!
