6/2

The weather report showed some relatively big waves & wind, so i fig'd i'd delay leaving til Monday. I wandered around Juneau, found that actually there are 3 or 4 blocks in the old part of town with character. Raining grey cold bored.

Then the sun poked thru the general clouds, so i left. Sea flat, it hardly could'v been a better day to boat.

There's water going directly north, but it's shallow, so i had to return thru the channel i'd arrived thru. Here comes another cruise ship (the Queen Elizabeth), but it's wake didnt appear threatening, indeed i didnt even slow down, and there was no problem.

I wonder if the one that almost sank me on the way in was exceeding some speed limit? I'll write the Coast Guard.

Scenicly, today was the most awesome day of the trip.

The original goal for the day had been Skagway (also the goal of the entire trip), but the sea had gotten rough (luckily the wind was with me, so it wasnt bad at all), i was tired, and i'd never been to Haines, so i stopped short. Haines is a small vacant town with old structures enuf to make it feel right, enuf. The scenery it sits in is awesome in all directions. I had a fine meal at a cafe' of clams & mussels, bread & noodles, then threw it up when i got back to the boat.
